ONGC Football Club wins promotion to I-League

Mumbai will see a new cub from the city in next year’s I-League after Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) clinched promotion beating SESA Football Academy 2-0 at the Bangalore Football Stadium in the ongoing second division tournament.

Two first-half goals from Tarif Ahmed and foreign recruit Badmas Babatunde gave the Mumbai club a comfortable win over SESA. The win gave ONGC 16 points from 6 matches with one round of matches still to be played. Babatunde struck in the fifth minute following a good play. Tarif doubled the advantage in the 18th minute passing the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

The fight for the other I-League place will be fought between second placed Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) and Vasco SC. HAL are on 15 points remain Bangalore’s only hope and require only a point to seal their promotion. Meanwhile Goa’s Vasco SC are third in the league with 12 points. HAL play SESA next while Vasco face Mohammedan Sporting.
