Inter to start Serie A title defense at Bologna

Inter Milan will begin its Serie A title defense at Bologna at the end of August, while AC Milan starts at home against newcomer Lecce, Juventus travels to Bari and AS Roma hosts newly promoted Cesena.

The opening round is on Aug. 28 and 29.

''We're playing in the European Super Cup a few days before and the thing I was worried about was getting a long away trip,'' Inter chief executive Ernesto Paolillo said. ''From that point of view Bologna is a good start.''

Inter, under new coach Rafael Benitez, will be chasing a sixth consecutive league title. The team's first big test will be in the fifth week, traveling to 2010 runner-up AS Roma. A week later, Inter meets Juventus at the San Siro.

''Roma is always our toughest opponent,'' Paolillo said. ''This match will be particularly difficult because we have a Champions League match a few days afterward.''

The first Milan derby of the season is on Nov. 14. The reverse fixture takes place on April 3, 2011.

Milan meets Juventus at home on Oct.31, while Roma visits the San Siro on Dec. 19 in the last round of matches before the two and a half week winter break.

Lazio meanwhile will attempt to again avoid suffering two defeats in the Rome derby against city-rival Roma on Nov.7 and March.13.

''The derby is the most important match for Lazio,'' club president Claudio Lotito said. ''I wouldn't say winning it is as big as the title, but nearly. It certainly is ahead of all the others.''
