AIFF sorts contract issue

The All India Football Federation has a struck a deal with 17 national team players for eight months as the national team prepares for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Doha.

According to the Goal 2011 programme, the national team players will be kept together for a period of eight months leading up to the AFC Asian Cup for which they will be contracted and compensated by the AIFF.

The majority of the players have agreed to a 15% hike on their existing contracts with their respective domestic clubs barring five senior players viz. Climax Lawrence, Steven Dias, Clifford Miranda, Anthony Pereira and Samir Naik who have received a better deal.

These five players have been handed a major hike owing to the vast difference between the contracts they were offered by their clubs for the coming year and the one which the AIFF suggested with a 15% raise. These senior pros negotiated their deal with the AIFF member committee comprise of Alberto Colaco, Larsing Ming, Subrata Dutta and Joaquim Alemao.
