Profile

Nanjangud Shivananju Manju, the defensive lynchpin of Mohan Bagan first shot to prominence during India’s tour of Pakistan in 2005 and was also a part of the Nehru Cup successes of 2007 and 2009. The 22 year old, is touted as one of India’s best defenders. He however, missed most of India’s Nehru Cup campaign in 2009 after fracturing his left toe in the first match against Lebanon. Manny as he is fondly called has been unlucky with injuries, having also missed out on most of the SAFF Cup and all of the AFC Challenge Cup last year. He is a versatile defender who can play at centre half and fullback positions with equal ease. He joined the Kolkata giants in the 2007-08 season from Mahindra United.

His stellar performance in the final against Syria in 2007 will be long remembered. He is also known to chip in with important goals from set pieces. His finest moment came against Bagan’s arch rivals East Bengal when he scored the all important winner in the Bengal derby in last season’s i-league. He also scored in Bagan’s Super Cup victory against i-league champions Churchill Brothers in April.
