Top 10 World Cup Defenders

Franz Beckenbauer:

The greatest defender of all-time, “Der Kaiser” remains the undisputed number one. A master of the “libero” role; Beckenbauer was not only an elegant ball player but also an astute defender; a born leader. He made his World Cup debut in 1966 as a 20-year old where he scored 4 goals that helped the Germans get to the final- pretty impressive for a defender. However it was eight years hence when he realised his dream of winning the World Cup trophy as captain of the 1974 German team.
