Uruguay 1930
Overview: The honour of hosting the first ever FIFA World Cup was given to Uruguay. France’s Lucien Laurent made history scoring the first goal of the FIFA World Cup. Argentina’s Golden Shoe winner Guillermo Stabile set the record for the first hat-trick in the World Cup scoring three times against Mexico. The entire World Cup was set in the capital city of Montevideo and legend has it, four teams arrived on the same boat to take part in the event. 13 teams participated with a group stage followed by the semi-finals and the finals. In the end, it brought joy for the “Celeste” (Uruguay), as they won the first ever World Cup by beating neighbours Argentina 4-2 in the final.
