Soccer City Stadium


The Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg is the venue for the opening as well as the final match of the FIFA World Cup 2010. It is located in the same vicinity as the South African Football Association headquarters where the FIFA offices for the World Cup are housed. It’s the largest stadium on the continent with an official capacity of nearly 92,000. The stadium has played host to most of the major footballing events in the country and was also the site of Nelson Mandela’s first speech after he was released from prison

Design attraction: The ground's design is inspired by the African pot known as the calabash, and its aesthetic appeal is only heightened further when the stadium is lit at night.
