Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium is a brand new world-class stadium located at Port Elizabeth. It’s the first football stadium of the kind to be built in the region as under the apartheid government, football was never given much funding. The stadium is named after the administrative district which the stadium is within, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, which leads to some people in the media mistaking it to be named after Nelson Mandela. While the metropolitan area was named in his honour, the stadium was not directly named after him.
