Profile

Panathinaikos is football club based in Athens, Greece. They ply their trade in the Super League Greece and are the most successful Greek football club with 20 Championships and 17 cups.

Panathinaikos dominated the domestic stage during the 60’s and 70’s winning 9 national championships. The most influential staff members during that time were Stjepan Bobek as coach and players like Takis Loukanidis and Mimis Domazos.

Ferenc Puskas, the legendary Hungarian player, led them to the edge of European glory in 1971 when they lost to Ajax in the European Cup final. To this day, they still remain the only club to achieve a place in the European cup finals. In the 1984-85 and 1995-96 campaigns, they managed to get to the semifinals. Panathinaikos showed their intent when they signed players like Jean-Alain Boumsong, Sidney Govou, Luis García and Damien Plessis in the 2010 summer transfer window.

Panathinaikos has a long-standing rivalry with Olympiacos. The name given to the Derby is “Derby of the eternal enemies".
