Auxerre is a French football club based in Auxerre, Burgundy. Founded in 1905, the club has been playing in the top-divison of French football since the 1980-81 season and have never been relegated since. It has been a moderately successful club, winning the Ligue 1 title once and the Coupe de France 4 times.

Guy Roux has been one of the most influential personalities for Auxerre. He was their manager from 1964 to 2000, for a record 36 consecutive years. A number of prominent French footballers launched themselves with Auxerre, namely Eric Cantona, Laurent Blanc, Philipe Mexes, Basile Boli, Djibril Cisse and more.

The most notable European success that they achieved was winning the Intertoto Cup twice, once in 1997 and again in 2006. Domestically they have by-and-large been a mid-table side, with a few top 5 finishes.
